A corporate video is often intended for a specific purpose in a corporate enviroment, it is viewed only by a limited or targeted audience some examples of that being Staff training or instruction and safety videos. they are basically used to engage the public when they are about to participate in a corporate activity for the first time, whether it is just for one specific occasion or for their new job at that company, this video will usually give information about the company or the product they will be working with and then it will also give them information on what it is they will need to be doing.
What is a promotional video?
A promotional video is a sales video which is used to introduce a new product or service to an audience, they are longer than adverts, usually being around ten or fifteen minutes and promoting what a service or product does. They are not made to sell the item but to gather awareness and excitement for the poduct or service.
The video above is a promotional video for the Nokia Booklet 3G, the message being promoted is simply how beautiful, convenient and useful the Nokia Booklet 3G is.
The style of the promotional video iss very artistic to make the product look great and advanced. The sound is clear and is used to draw attention to the prodct and make it seem better, also the words being displayed on the video are mostly factual being short brief information about the product. There's a lot of emphasis on how portable the device is and it shows the measurements of the product in every way possible.
This is the promotional video that came out shrotly after the first ipod, this was used to get people to understand the ipod, telling them such things about it being fun and small. The video is very bright and clean which is the same with most of Apples work. It tends to focus on how portable the ipod is and how easily it fits into pockets. Its a rather simplistic video showing footage of the ipod in use and then cutting to the people who have been working on it to explain something about the product and then it goes back to footage of the product in use.
Legal and Ethical Issues
There are ethical and legal issues that need to be considered when creating a corporate or promotional video, if these arew not taken into consideration both the creater of the corporate or promotional video and the company it is about could end up in trouble. All of the videos should be decent, which means it should be suitable for the audience, nudity for example wouldnt be appropriate, it should also be honest, truthful and prepared with a sense of responcibility to the people who will be viewing it.
Nobody should feel offended by the video because of their race, sex, sexual orientation, religiopn or disability, they should also try and represent a variety of these different categories in the video as to not leave anyone feeling as if they have been discriminated against.
Copyright is also a large thing to consider when creating a promotional or corporate video, copyright is an automatic right that comes into exsistance when a original piece of material is created as it doesnt have to be registered in the united kingdom.
A lot of things are covered by copyright so it is good to be sure that you arent using something that could potentially be copyrighted in your video, literary work, computer programs, music, artistic work, sounds and already exsisting visual media is most likely copyrighted so getting the permission of the person who created the copyrighted material is required.
